About Our Preschool Program:
The Memory Lane
Family Place Preschool program is licensed by the Department of Community
Services and meets all provincial regulations. A copy of the Day Care Act,
which outlines these regulations can be found at http://www.gov.ns.ca/coms/department/Legislation.html. We encourage parents to read the Act,
so that you are informed of what is required from the MLFP preschool on behalf
of you and your children.
Following are some
details on the program. If you have any questions, feel free to discuss with
staff. The MLFP has an open-door policy for all of its programs and parent
feedback is both encouraged and appreciated.
- Under
our license, school readiness programs are offered to two separate groups of
children, who attend two weekly sessions over a nine month period (mid-September to
mid-June).
- Each
group has a maximum of 12 children, who will be entering the school system the
following year. Each group has one trained, qualified staff and one experienced assistant.
- Programs
are designed to provide early learning experiences for children which focuses
on their physical, intellectual, emotional and social development.
- One of
the goals of the MFLP Preschool program is to offer affordable, accessible
services and to accommodate children, who for various reasons, may face
challenges/barriers in receiving preschool education.
- In an
effort to accomplish this goal, fees are kept as low as possible and are set,
based on a sliding fee schedule. Transportation is available for children, who
have no way of coming to the centre.
- Referrals
are also taken from community agencies to accommodate children with identified varied abilities.
